Northeast Indiana Mensa

Loc-Sec Column - March 2021

By Gary Lehman (garyflehman@hotmail.com)

Special Note from Gary: The Covid-19 pandemic has provided us with the opportunity to have folks attend our sessions, without having to travel. Our members come from as far west (and north!) as South Bend and Logansport, as far south as Marion, and as far east as western Ohio. During the past several months, we have had several members who had not attended meetings before, attend our ZOOM meetings. All are most welcome to attend. ZOOM details are given below.

I would also draw your attention to the U.S. Mensa web site note below.

February 2021 Meeting: We were joined by the Regional Vice-Chairman for our region, Jon Gruebele. A good discussion covered a number of topics. At the February meeting, it was decided to try the name, "Sit and Spin" for these regular get togethers on ZOOM. In addition, we decided to explore doing the virtual murder mystery, with our members being the cast. We are looking at doing this for the April session. For more information, try: www.broadwaymurdermysteries.com Suggestions are welcome for which one to do! They have many from which to choose.

Our regular meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Saturday, March 13.

Have you seen any of the small Community Pantries around town? These tall vividly painted metal cabinet pantries were conceived by Forward Indiana for the mutual aid and well-being of friends and family. Leave something for others or take what you need. They are already getting lots of use!

At our March meeting, Lesley Barnett and founder Sarah Thompson will lead a presentation and discussion about this exciting new pantry program and their numerous pop-up events. Please join us on the second Saturday of the month at our regular time of 6:30 PM.

(If you have installed Zoom on your computer, tablet, or phone, our Loc Sec Gary Lehman will provide an easy link in his Friday reminder. Open Gary's email message on the device with Zoom. Then just tap the link given and wait for Phil to open the meeting. Phil Morehead is the master of connecting us all.)

Karaoke oppotunity

Daniel Biedzen, a Mensan from Northville, MI, has found the Fort Wayne establishment “Peanuts” to be an excellent location for Karaoke. If you would like to sing with Dan, coordinate with him. He’d appreciate your company. You can reach Daniel at dbiedzen@earthlink.net.

South Bend Meetings

In hiatus until the virus clars up ... or ...

Millenial / Gen X

    Proctors Needed

North East Indiana Mensa hosts five testing sessions each year and these are capably handled by our current team of three proctors. But as with any team, there is always room for more.

The requirements for being a proctor are: You must have at least a four-year college degree, you must be recommended by your local group's Local Secretary and Testing Coordinator, you must have experience administering standardized tests or have completed the required observations and training by your local Mensa group.

Each of our proctors currently administers three to four of our five testing sessions each year. The session last approximately two hours and they require collection fees and checking identification of the participants, giving the tests, and gathering and mailing the testing materials.

If you are interested in becoming a testing proctor, contact Dan Klopfenstein, Testing Coordinator, at 260-710-0030 or danswissmr@aol.com

    Contribute to Hoosier M

Have an interesting story, hobby, creative work, etc. that you would like to share with your fellow Mensans? Please consider contributing to Hoosier M. You need not feel like you need to write a novel. Even a short paragraph would add something to the newsletter. And just because you may not think something is particularly interesting does not mean your fellow Mensans won't. To contribute, email David Dunham at dcdunham@gmail.com.
